Library Membership


How do I get a library card?

To apply for a library card, visit any library branch with valid identification, or create an Online Membership then visit a branch.

What are the benefits of having a library card?

A library card allows you to borrow from any of our branches and access our digital collections. You can also use our public computers for free at all of our library branches and book a meeting room at Springwood Library.

How do I renew my membership?

Memberships can be renewed online, by phone or in person at any library branch.

How long does my membership last?

Library membership is valid for two years. To renew, contact any library branch with your current address and phone number so we can confirm your details. If your address has changed, you’ll need to provide an ID with the updated address.

I forgot my PIN or password. What should I do?

You can reset your PIN or password by clicking the "Forgot PIN" link on the login page. Reset your PIN / Password

Do you offer work experience positions?

We are delighted that you are interested in gaining work experience at Blue Mountains Library. All work experience enquiries are managed by Blue Mountains City Council’s Human Resources department. Visit the Council Work Experience page for details.

Can I work at the library?

Can I volunteer at the library?

We currently do not have a volunteer program at Blue Mountains Library. Thank you for your understanding.

Can I donate items to the library?

We welcome donations of books, magazines, CDs, and DVDs that meet our selection criteria. Items should generally be less than five years old, in excellent condition, and relevant to our community’s interests. Donations become the property of Blue Mountains Library, and we reserve the right to decide how to use or dispose of them in line with our Collection Development Policy. Unsuitable items may be sold at our book sales, with proceeds supporting new materials.

Can I donate items to the Local Studies collection?

We are always eager to add material to the Local Studies collection, including books, photographs, business papers, maps, and other items related to the Blue Mountains. If you’re unsure whether your materials are suitable, please contact our Local Studies Librarian.

I am an author. Will the library purchase or accept a donation of my book?

We value contributions from authors. To have your book considered for our collection, please review our Collection Development Policy. You can donate a copy by completing the Donation of Materials Form and bringing your book to a branch. Donations are assessed by our librarians and must meet our selection criteria. Please note that donated books become the property of the library, and we cannot guarantee their inclusion in the collection.

Can I borrow a book from another library?

Interlibrary loans are available for books and journal articles. Please see staff at any branch. Fees apply.


Services


What are the library’s hours?

We have six branches and two remote library lockers across the Blue Mountains. We also have a 24/7 digital library for our members to access. Visit our Contact Us page to view the opening hours of your nearest branch or book locker.

Can I reserve a study room?

Yes, study rooms can be reserved online or in person. Visit our Study Room page for more details.

Do you have children’s programs?

We run weekly, free programs for 0–5 year-olds that aim to develop language and literacy skills in a fun and inclusive environment. During the school holidays we hold low-cost workshops for school-aged children. See our Programs for Kids page for more details.

Does the library offer computer classes?

Blue Mountains Library does not offer computer classes; however, a range of options are available for Blue Mountains residents. Please see our recommendations on the Technology page.

Do you have a mobile library/home library service?

We do not have a mobile library van, however, if you are a local resident and you are unable to get to our Library branches due to frailty, illness, living with disability or caring duties, we can deliver library items to your door for free. Contact one of our branches or go to the Home Library Service page for more information.
