Adding or editing a search field

When you add or edit a search field, you specify how you want that search field to be used within Portfolio, the type of data to expect in the search field, whether it is a parent or child field, how the data in the search field should be normalized, and what behavior you want the search field to exhibit when you display the search field value. You can also specify a default MARC Map for the search field or configure PDF field properties for any search fields that you plan to use with PDF data. For more information, see Configuring a MARC Map for a parent search field and Configuring PDF field properties for a search field.

If you add or edit a search field, or if you edit the MARC Map properties for a search field, you must re-index your data and refresh the Discovery search cache. Your changes are not reflected in Searching or the Admin console until you refresh the search cache. For more information about refreshing the Discovery search cache, see Refreshing the search cache.

Extra content search fields do not map to MARC Tags, nor do they map to PDF metadata fields. While these options may be available for extra content, changing the settings may cause undesirable results.
