Managing search result displays

A search result display is a series of settings that determine how the search results appear to library patrons. You can determine the data that appears for each library item in the search results, and you can customize the labels for the data that you choose to display.

By default, Portfolio includes a display for each pre-configured search target that is included with Portfolio; namely, the Rooms Content, Library Favorites, and ILS/Library Search search targets.

You can edit these default displays or create your own displays. If there are displays that you do not need or are no longer using, you can delete them.

When you configure a display, you choose the search target associated with the display, as well as the search fields or enriched content options that you want to display for each item in the list. The list of search fields that you can enable for a display depends on which search fields you have previously set up, and whether the search fields are associated with the search target that you chose for the display. For example, if you set up a display that uses the “Library Search” search target, the list of search fields available to add to the display depends on the search fields that you have previously set up and whether those search fields have been enabled for the “Library Search” search target. (For more information, see Managing search fields and Managing Discovery search targets. The list of enriched content options that are available to enable for a display depend on the enriched content options that you have set up.

Once you have chosen which search fields you want to include in the display, you can configure whether or not the search field is repeated, how to delimit the data in repeated search fields, when to truncate the data in the field, and whether or not the field is to display next to the previous search field.

If you add or edit the settings for a display, you must refresh the Discovery search cache afterwards. Your changes are not reflected in Searching or the Admin console until you refresh the search cache. For more information about refreshing the Discovery search cache, see Refreshing the search cache.
