Navigating the digital asset hierarchy

In Assets, the digital asset hierarchy allows you to quickly find the directory node or asset you want to view or manage. The digital asset hierarchy displays under Directory on the Assets page. When you select a folder under Directory , the Directory Contents list will update to display the child nodes (directory nodes and assets) inside the selected directory node.

If the Asset Filter field is set to Published Only, Staged Only, or Hidden Only, you may not see all of the assets to which you have access in the Directory Contents list. Setting the Asset Filter field to All Assets will display all of the assets to which you have access.

The directory and asset nodes that you can view or manage depend on the permissions of your login and of the nodes. If your login does not have the required permissions to view or manage a directory or asset, that directory or asset will not display in the Directory tree.

To navigate the digital asset hierarchy

  1. Log in to the Admin console.
  2. Choose Assets from the navigation pane.

The Assets page displays. The digital asset hierarchy appears under Directory.

  3. Select the name of the root (top) directory node.

The directory nodes and/or assets in the root directory node display under Directory Contents.

The folder symbol () displays for directory nodes.

The page symbol () displays for assets. Assets that are available to display in patron search results appear in regular, black font. Assets that are hidden from patron search results appear in italic, gray font.

The harvested directory node symbol () displays for directory nodes imported into the hierarchy from external sources. The harvested asset symbol () displays for assets imported into the hierarchy from external sources. For more information about harvesting directory nodes and assets, see Managing OAI-PMH settings.

Note:  The directory nodes and assets that display are determined by the access level of your login, the nodes, and the assets.

  4. Continue to select directory nodes under Directory Contents until you see the directory node or asset you want.

As you select directory nodes, the Directory hierarchy display is updated to show where the directory node you have selected is in the digital asset hierarchy. The selected directory node’s name is listed in bold, green text to indicate it is selected.

Note:  Only directory nodes in the hierarchy are shown under Directory; to view assets, you must select a directory node name in the hierarchy. Any assets in the selected directory node will display under Directory Contents.

Choose Expand () next to the directory node in the Directory hierarchy to view its child directory nodes. Choose Collapse () next to the directory node to hide its child directory nodes.

  5. In the Directory Contents display, you can select the name of an asset to edit the asset. Refer to Modifying the details of a digital asset for more information.
