Setting up Portfolio

When your library purchases or upgrades Portfolio, SirsiDynix performs any necessary installations, upgrades, or migrations. However, once the installation, upgrade, or migration procedure is complete, you can begin configuring Portfolio for your specific library’s needs. These setup instructions are designed to guide you through setting up and troubleshooting the most widely used functions of Portfolio: creating or modifying a single profile that establishes a connection to the library catalog and harvests and indexes the data for searching.

Before you begin setting up Portfolio, identify these three things for your library or consortium patrons:

  • Who your audiences are and if you want each audience to access different information. This will define the search profiles that you create.
  • What information elements you want to make available to your patrons to search. This will define which Discovery or federated search sources and targets you define, and whether you set up rooms for additional content.
  • What search tools you want to provide for your patrons. This will determine the limits that you set up, and whether you set up features such as search suggestions.

This chapter contains topics that will help you set up your Portfolio system and customize it to fit your different library and search profile needs.

The Portfolio Searching interface offers an overview of the user interface, including navigation, searching, facets, My Account, and My Lists. As features are called out in that topic, there are links to other topics that will help you set up those features in Portfolio.
