Scheduled Tasks

Scheduled Tasks lets you view the tasks that Portfolio runs to collect and index data. Portfolio displays these tasks in a list that you can quickly browse to see if the tasks are running correctly. From the list you can view the history of a task, trigger a task to run, stop a task while it is running, or disable the schedule of a task so it won’t run until you allow it.

Only administrators with accounts that include the PRIV_TASK_MANAGE privilege can access, schedule, and launch tasks.

The scheduled tasks help build the search cache that patrons search against. You will want to keep the search cache as current as possible; however, running tasks uses system resources, which slows response time for patrons searching the cache and staff using Portfolio. For that reason, there are two ways of updating the cache that take less time and fewer resources: running the ILS Delta harvester to collect changes made in the ILS, and refreshing the cache in the Admin Console to update any changes made to Portfolio system settings. When possible, the ILS Delta harvester should not be run during business hours.

The two main types of tasks are system tasks and search source tasks.
