Configuring languages for a search profile

You can configure the language choices that display in Searching for a specific search profile. These language choices let users change the language in which Searching is displayed. You can add, remove, or reorder language choices. The languages that you choose for a search profile are displayed in Searching in that language and in the order that they appear in the Select Languages list in header and in the Default Language drop-down menu in My Account Preferences.

The Discovery administrator database metadata is cached in the Discovery Server application. When you make any change to the language choices that display for a search profile, the changes will not be reflected to the patron in Searching until the metadata cache is refreshed. For more information, see Refreshing the search cache.

If you try to add or remove a language for a search profile at the same time as another administrative user, the software displays an error message indicating that the record has been updated or deleted by another user. Your browser then refreshes the page according to the changes that the other administrative user made, and reloads the data. If the profile is still available, you can continue configuring language for this search profile

To configure languages for a search profile

  1. Log in to the Admin console.
  2. Choose Profiles from the navigation pane.
  3. Find the search profile for which you want to configure languages, then from the Select menu choose Configure Languages.
  4. Complete the fields, as necessary. For more information, see Fields: Configure Profile Languages.

Note: If you remove the designated default language from Selected list and choose OK, the program will display a warning. You must designate a different language in the Selected list as the default language before you can remove the current default language. You must select at least one language for the profile.

  5. Choose OK to save your changes, or choose Cancel to discard your changes and return to Profiles.
